If you’re looking for a Greek island with towering mountains, fertile plains, quaint fishing villages, gorgeous coves and bays, an attractive capital town, a profusion of spring and early summer flowers, a crystal clear sea and simple, friendly service, then Corfu is definitely for you. And the resort we have chosen - stunning Paleokastritsa - has it all with a Greek way of life, a good selection of shops, bars and tavernas, a few nightspots and all in delightful surroundings. There are other very lively resorts on the island of course, but in Paleo, as it’s known locally by everyone, the pace is slower, the shops are friendlier and the scenery is both picturesque and breath-taking. The island itself is relatively small - approximately 35 miles long by 15 miles wide - but the contrasts are quite amazing with 3,000 ft mountains, fertile valleys, pretty little beaches and coves, olde worlde villages and a capital, Corfu Town, which is very Greek and well worth a visit. Our hotel is in Paleokastritsa, a picturesque resort on the west coast with fabulous views across the Ionian Sea. By day, most guests are to be found around the hotel pool or on one of the little beaches down below the hotel. Come night-time, there’s a good selection of bars and tavernas to choose from although the night-life is definitely low-key.
HOTEL PALEO ART NOUVEAU****
Hotel Paleo Art Nouveau enjoys superb panoramic views of the resort, the bays and the Ionian Sea beyond. Directly below the hotel, some 500m away, are a few local bars and restaurants whilst the resort centre is approximately 1 mile away. The nearest beach is around 300m from the hotel but in all there are 6 sand and shingle beaches in and around Paleokastritsa. The local bus to Corfu town stops around 100m from the hotel. The hotel’s 2 swimming pools have a pool bar and terrace (with sunbeds and parasols) from where there are breathtaking views out to sea. All Travel One’s comfortable air-conditioned bedrooms are twins or doubles for sole use and all have private sh/wc (with hairdryer), telephone, safety deposit box & mini-fridge (both payable locally) and a balcony or terrace. All meals are taken in the hotel’s buffet-style restaurant. Relaxed, friendly, incredibly picturesque and with great views wherever you look, especially from the 13th century Byzantine monastery just above the resort, Paleokastritsa is, we think, one of the loveliest places on this beautiful Greek island. Please note that the hotel is not suitable for people with walking difficulties. |
