Majorca, Balearic islands
Incredibly, and despite being one of the world’s most popular destinations, Majorca is still one of the most beautiful, unspoilt, underrated islands you are ever likely to visit. Away from the Bay of Palma, spectacular in itself but very busy, you enter another world. A world of majestic mountains to the north and west, lovely beaches in the south and east, idyllic country hamlets dotted all over the island and pretty little fishing villages like Porto Petro, Port d’Andratx and Port de Soller. And then there’s Palma, with its magnificent cathedral and Moorish palace, its delightful, pedestrianised shopping quarter, its attractive yacht marina and harbourfront and centuries of fascinating history, culture and art. Add to all this a sophisticated night scene and superb cuisine and you have, in our view, the perfect destination. It really is a great island to explore as everything is within easy reach and public transport is excellent (try the train ride from Palma to Soller – fabulous scenery and a memorable day out).
Hotel Sunna Park ★★★★
Picturesque Paguera is one of Majorca’s lesser known resorts even though it’s within easy reach of Palma and the lovely hills and mountains behind the resort. The area is full of pine trees and shrubs which give the resort a peaceful, natural ambience and, combined with its summer villas and a wide selection of shops, bars and restaurants, it all adds up to a great holiday location. There’s a regular bus service to the centre of Palma and also to other resorts along the coast. The comfortable Sunna Park is just 200m from the nearest beach and boasts a swimming pool with a sun terrace, sunbeds and umbrellas, a pool bar and is air-conditioned throughout. There’s a restaurant, free wifi in all rooms and public areas whilst all the recently renovated bedrooms, some with sea view, have a private bath/sh/wc with hairdryer, satellite TV, a safe (payable locally), telephone and a balcony or terrace. In an excellent location and within easy reachof the island’s capital, Palma, the Sunna Park is a great venue for your holiday on this beautiful island.
