Olu Deniz, Turkey |  | If
ever there was a beautiful, picture-postcard place waiting to be photographed,
then Olu Deniz is it. It is incredibly photogenic and the reality is every bit
as good as the hype. The beach, with its array of watersports from waterskiing
to paragliding, is a long, crescentshaped mix of sand and shingle and is a sunworshipper’s
paradise. It’s bordered by an beautiful turquoise sea and overlooked by pine-clad
hills and majestic, mountain forests.
The lagoon area, at the far end of the
beach, is part of a national park and conservation area so most holiday accommodation
is located behind and above the beach. There’s a wide selection of bars and
eating places, a choice of mini-markets and shops and several lively night spots
to choose from, all within a short stroll of the hotel. Some 25 minutes’
drive away is the bustling port and market town of Fethiye with its excellent
shopping, museum and terrific seafood restaurants. With all this at your fingertips,
it’s not difficult to see why Olu Deniz is one of Turkey’s most popular
resorts. | | The
family-owned Mavi Belce (pronounced "mahvee belljay") enjoys a great
location in the centre of Olu Deniz and is just a 3 minute walk from the resort’s
magnificent beach. The hotel itself is divided into 4 separate parts which are
located around the hotel’s large swimming pool and sunbathing area (with
sunbeds and parasols). All 46 comfortable bedrooms are air-conditioned (approx
£3 per day supplement payable locally if used) and have a balcony or terrace,
TV, telephone and a private sh/wc with hairdryer. There’s also a poolside
bar, small garden and, of course, a reception area where safety deposit boxes
are available (payable locally). Breakfast is taken in the hotel’s al fresco
dining area whilst dinner has been arranged for Travel One guests in a nearby
popular restaurant. It’s all very friendly and informal and the perfect venue
