Kalkan
is a delight in every sense of the word and, without doubt, its one of our
favourite places. The setting is fabulous. A maze of narrow, winding streets
lined with old Turkish houses, craft shops, pretty boutiques, tavernas and the
odd night spot - rise from the harbour and climb to the top of the village from
where there are stunning views of the bay and the surrounding mountains. The crescent-shaped
bay is backed by olive and pineclad hills whilst Kalkans little port is
alive with vessels of every shape and size from sleek motor yachts to humble
taxi-boats. Nearby is the sandy beach at Kaputas, just 10 minutes or so away by
dolmus, although the shingle village beach, just 10 minutes from the hotel, is
absolutely perfect for sunbathing and swimming. However, if your idea of bliss
is wandering along a 12 mile expanse of sand with only the sound of lapping waves
for company, then Patara Beach, 20 minutes away by dolmus, is an absolute must.
For those wanting a picture postcard setting, a choice of beaches and an authentic
Turkish feel to the resort, Kalkan is the place to be. |
