Kalkan, Turkey
|
 |
| Kalkan is a delight in
every sense of the word and, without doubt, its one of
our favourite places. The setting is fabulous.A maze of narrow,
winding streets lined with old Turkish houses, craft
shops, pretty boutiques, tavernas and the odd night spot - rise
from the harbour and climb to the top of the village from where
there are stunning views of the bay (from our hotel) and the
surrounding mountains. The crescent-shaped bay is backed by olive
and pine-clad hills whilst Kalkans little port is alive
with vessels of every shape and size from sleek motor
yachts to humble taxiboats. These little boats ply to and from
the excellent, sandy Kaputas Beach, just 10 minutes away, although
the shingle village beach, just a 10 minute stroll from the
hotel, is absolutely perfect for sunbathing and swimming. However,
if your idea of bliss is wandering along a 12 mile expanse of
sand with only the sound of lapping waves for company, then
Patara Beach, 20 minutes away by dolmus, is an absolute must
(see page 15). For those wanting a picture postcard setting,
a choice of beaches and an authentic Turkish feel to the resort,
Kalkan is the place to be. |
| The Dionysias location
could not be better. Although only a 7 or 8 minute stroll from
the resort centre and no more than 10 minutes from the beach,
it enjoys an elevated setting with spectacular views of the
harbour and the bay beyond from its beautiful rooftop terrace.
Shops, bars, restaurants and nightspots are all just a short
stroll away whilst the pretty harbourfront is just a 7 or 8minute
stroll down fromthe hotel. Its all very friendly and welcoming
with the staff doing their utmost tomake you feel at home fromday
one.Meals are usually takenalfresco on one of the
Dionysias terraces whilst the bar is very much the meeting
place at the end of a really hard days sunbathing, swimming,
shopping or sightseeing. Rooms are airy and comfortable and
have private shower & wc and a balcony or terrace. They
are all air-conditioned (£3 per day supplement payable
locally if used) and are nicely furnished. We think the Dionysia
offers great value and this, coupled with its great location,
makes it the perfect place to enjoy a memorable holiday. |
