Playa del Carmen, Mexico
|
 |
| With its fascinating Aztec,
Maya and Spanish colonial history, its amazingly varied landscape
(jungle, forests, mountains, vast plains and deserts), its wonderful
tropical climate, fabulous beaches and warm, welcoming people,
its little wonder that Mexico rates very highly when choosing
a long haul destination with a difference.Weve chosen,
as the centre for our 2008 programme, the Yucatan peninsula
on Mexicos Caribbean coast, with its unique blend of history,
culture and beachlife. Theres so much to see and do its
difficult to know where to start but the absolute musts
are the dramatic Mayan pyramids and temples at Chichen Itza
and Uxmal, the beautiful colonial cities of Merida and Valladolid,
the only oceanside Mayan site in Mexico at Tulum and the huge
array of diving and snorkelling opportunities along the reef
which runs parallel to the Yucatans coastline. And theres
swimming with dolphins, too! Everywhere, its difficult
to escape the stunning colours Mexico is famous for, be they
the clothes the villagers wear, the bougainvillea, hibiscus
and frangipani you see in every garden, birds of every brilliant
hue and, of course, the unbelievably blue Caribbean. Its
a heady mix and from Playa del Carmen, Travel Ones Yucatan
resort, you can enjoy all this and more. |
Hotel El Tukan *** (All Inclusive)
|
| Enjoying a prime location
in the centre of Playa del Carmen and just a short stroll from
the long sandy beach, the El Tukan is a traditional style hotel
set in attractive, small gardens. The resorts Quinta
Avenida (literally 5th Avenue) is close by
and runs parallel to and just behind the beach. Its a
mile-long, very atmospheric pedestrianised avenida
with a wide selection of shops, bars, restaurants, cantinas,
handicraft stalls, night spots, fashionable Mexican boutiques
and, especially in the evening, people. Mexican, American, European
just about everyone loves to stroll up and down the Avenida
enjoying the cool evening air and soaking up Playa del Carmens
unique atmosphere. Its a great sight and its even
greater to be part of it. The friendly, unpretentious El Tukan
has a swimming pool, a sun terrace with sunbeds and umbrellas,
a poolside bar, a beach club and a cenote (an underground
natural spring). All the airconditioned rooms, twins or doubles
for sole use, have a sh/wc, safety deposit box, satellite or
cable TV, a ceiling fan and a balcony or terrace. Its
all very friendly and informal and a great place to enjoy the
sights, sounds and sheer pleasure of Playa del Carmen. |
