Algarve, Portugal

 |
| Superb Atlantic beaches,
genuine hospitality and a wonderful climate all help to make
the Algarve one of the most popular destinations for visitors
to Portugal. The 100 mile long coastline is a mix of modern
resorts, fishing villages, ocean-side golf courses and mile
after mile of golden beaches washed twice daily by the ever
obliging Atlantic. Theres plenty to see and do on the
coast but should you venture just a few miles inland youll
find unspoilt towns and villages full of character and traditional
charm Silves, for example, the old Moorish capital with
its splendid castle, and Loule with its bustling Saturday market.
To the east lies Spain with Seville, one of Europes most
beautiful cities, less than a 3 hour drive from our hotel in
Tavira. For sports enthusiasts theres an abundance of
golf courses and tennis courts and lets not forget Portuguese
cuisine, especially the superb cataplana. Mouthwatering
prawns, clams, lobster, all kinds of fresh fish and the famous
grilled sardines are to be found everywhere including, of course,
the beachside restaurants of Tavira (and all washed down, naturally,
with a bottle of Portugals very own delicious vinho verde). |
| Just off the coast road
that runs from Faro to the Spanish border some 20kms away, the
Eurotel Tavira is a comfortable, well-run hotel set in extensive
grounds and gardens. Theres a large swimming pool with
spacious sun terraces, sunbeds and umbrellas, a bar, a TV room,
and bicycles for hire. Its approximately 4kms from the
centre of Tavira with its very attractive old quarter, shops,
riverside bars and restaurants, beautiful ceramic tiled houses,
the imposing Praça da Republica Square with its open-air
cafés, and the lovely River Gilão running through
the centre of the town down to the sea. The hotel runs a courtesy
bus to Tavira and the beach a fantastic 10 mile stretch
of white sand with (near the boat jetty) a handful of bars and
local restaurants (great seafood), sunbeds and umbrellas. All
the Eurotel Taviras airconditioned bedrooms are twins
or doubles for sole occupancy and all have a balcony or terrace,
telephone,minibar, satellite TV, air-conditioning and a bathroom
with shower & wc. Its all very informal, set back
from the hustle of the coast and, most of all, its the
ideal location for a relaxing, laid-back holiday. |
