Banjul, Gambia
|
 |
|
Under 6 hours from London and with no time difference, The Gambia is an English speaking former
British colony and an exciting year-round destination. From November to June temperatures are high
and rain is virtually unheard of, whilst during the quieter summer months, brief, heavy showers
transform The Gambia into a blaze of colour and tropical vegetation. Whilst being one of Africa's
smallest countries it boasts an amazing variety of vistas and landscapes all dominated by the majestic
River Gambia which flows from east to west along the entire country. A sub-tropical climate (the
Gambia is more or less on the same latitude as Barbados), a fascinating culture, magnificent sandy
beaches, superb sightseeing and some of the friendliest people on earth all combine to make this a
really great holiday destination. However, even the most seasoned traveller is likely to express
amazement at the many faces of The Gambia one sees in this gorgeous but incongruous country.
Gambians will always try to engage you in conversation - they are innately curious - and outside some
hotels and in local craft markets there are stalls and vendors trying to tempt you into buying fresh
tropical fruit, delicious nuts, local handicrafts and the ubiquitous T-shirts. It really is a great destination
and, in conjunction with our Gambia partners, The Gambia Experience, you'll be able to savour and
enjoy the very best that this lovely country has to offer.

Corenthia Atlantic Beach Hotel ****
|
|
The Atlantic Beach, one of The Gambia's longest established hotels, enjoys an
excellent beachfront location close to the capital, Banjul which can be
reached in about 10 minutes from the hotel. A particular feature of the hotel
is the charming bird garden which is home to many different species, both
resident and migratory and is popular with all guests, not just birdwatchers.
The sandy beach, right outside the hotel, is one of The Gambia's biggest and
some hotel rooms enjoy sea views (£10 per day supplement). It's ideal for
total relaxation and lovely walks along the beach but daytime activities and
varied evening entertainment are provided by the hotel. For those seeking
shops, bars and restaurants in different surroundings, there's a wide choice in
other resorts just an inexpensive taxi journey away. The hotel's many facilities
include a free-form swimming pool with 2 jacuzzis, an inside lounge area
built around a large tree, 3 restaurants, hairdresser, small gym, disco, internet
café, gift shop, sports facilities (tennis, squash, croquet, volleyball, pool) and
evening entertainment. Please note that sports and evening entertainment
are scaled down somewhat during the summer months. All the twin and
double bedrooms for sole use are air-conditioned and have a minibar, TV,
telephone, UK 3 pin sockets, balcony or terrace and private bath/sh/wc
with hairdryer.
