The South-American country of Peru is a fascinating destination combining a diverse landscape, from the snow-capped heights of the Andes mountains to coastal plains and the lush green rainforests of the Amazon river, with a rich cultural heritage. It is known as the heartland of the Incas, the ancient civilisation which thrived here for around one hundred years, from 1438 AD. Its monuments are its greatest legacy – from the iconic site of Machu Picchu to its former capital city of Cusco. Travel One is delighted to include this brand new 12 day tour for our more adventurous guests who would like to explore all that Peru has to offer. If you have been hesitating to visit Peru, now is your chance. Our knowledgeable local guides will ensure that you gain a real insight into the history and culture of Peru, meet local people and enjoy the spectacular natural landscape. They will look after all of the practical arrangements so that you can concentrate on having a relaxing holiday. You will visit bustling cities, spectacular mountains, lakes and canyons, and meet people from rural communities. The highlight of the tour will undoubtedly be the visit to the mysterious citadel of Machu Picchu.

Peru Private Tour  

Day 1 Depart from the UK and fly to Lima, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Dinner and overnight in your Lima hotel.

Day 2 After breakfast depart for a half-day tour of Lima to discover the city’s fascinating history and start learning about the Incas. In the afternoon you will have time to explore at leisure to discover the Government Palace, Cathedral, Archbishop’s Palace and City Hall. In the afternoon you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to the airport for your domestic flight to Arequipa. On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3  After breakfast you will enjoy a half-day city tour of Peru’s second largest city, Arequipa, known as the ‘White City’. It has a stunning volcano as its backdrop and has some wonderful religious sites such as the Church of the Society of Jesus, the frescoes at the San Ignacio Dome and the labyrinthine Santa Catalina Convent. The afternoon and evening are free to explore at leisure. Dinner and overnight in Arequipa.

Day 4 Today it’s an early start for the drive through beautiful scenery to Chivay. You can choose to join an optional visit to the thermal baths nearby (at additional cost). Dinner and overnight in Chivay.

Day 5 It’s an even earlier start for the drive through the mountains to Cruz Del Condor. From this vantage point you will be able to see the stunning Colca Canyon and hopefully catch a glimpse of the condors. Head back towards Chivay, stopping at small villages en route before continuing to Puno, Peru’s folklore capital. Dinner and overnight in Puno.

Day 6 Today you will visit the spectacular Lake Titicaca with its floating islands. A motor boat will leave from the port of Puno to take you to the Uros islands where your guide will tell you about the local lifestyle and you will have the chance to meet local families. We will then sail to ‘Taquile Island’, home to a traditional Quechua speaking community, which has a strong traditional of weaving. You will enjoy magnificent views of the lake and have the opportunity to explore at leisure, meeting direct descendants of the Incas. Return to Puno for dinner and overnight.

Day 7 After an early breakfast you will leave to take the bus to the ancient capital of Cusco, stopping off en route at some of the ancient sites such as the tombs of Pukara; the peak of La Raya, 4335 metres above sea level; the Wiracocha God Temple of Raqchi and the beautiful church of Andahuaylilas. You will arrive in Cusco in time for dinner and overnight.

Day 8 You will be picked up for a full-day tour of the Urubamba Valley, known as the ‘Sacred Valley’, where you will visit the archaeological site and the colourful Indian market in Pisac.  Return to Cusco in time for dinner and overnight.

Day 9 You will leave early for the train journey to  Ollantaytambo to see the archaeological complex, before taking the bus up to the breath-taking site of Machu Picchu. You will then enjoy a two hour walking tour of this magnificent site with a guide before having time at leisure to explore. In the afternoon you will return to Cusco for dinner and overnight.

Day 10  After breakfast you will enjoy a half-day city tour of Cusco, taking in the Koricancha or ‘Temple of the Sun’ the Sacsayhuaman, the Q’enqo labyrinth and more. You can join an optional cooking class (at additional cost) or choose to explore at leisure. Dinner and overnight in Cusco.

Day 11 Today is free to relax and explore the ancient Inca capital of Cusco, or if you prefer you can join an optional tour of Rainbow Mountain (at additional cost).

Day 12 After breakfast you will be picked up for your transfer to the airport to fly to Lima and return to the UK.
