Turunc
Singles Holidays to Turkey
With its stunning mountain-backed bay and idyllic picturesque location, Turunc (pronounced ‘tooroonch’) is a wonderful place to unwind, enjoy the delights of a charming village and just watch the world go by. The sand and shingle beach, narrow-ish but very long, winds around the bay which is protected by the pine-clad hills and mountains directly behind the resort. Down at the harbourfront, boats of all shapes and sizes are to be seen coming from and going to Icmeler and Marmaris, approximately half an hour away, and an inexpensive dolmuş service also runs between Turunc and Icmeler where you’ll find (if you feel the need) a range of shops, bars, restaurants, ATMs, nightlife and a colourful market). In Turunc itself there’s a good selection of shops, restaurants and bars lining the main street which runs parallel to the beach. And, if you like cooling breezes on a hot summer evening, then the bar at the Barbaros Beach Hotel is the ideal place to be for a predinner drink and lovely views across the bay.
Hotel Barbaros Beach *** The small, family-run, Barbaros Beach offers guests simple but comfortable accommodation, friendly, attentive service and is attractively laid out with a garden and a small swimming pool and sunbathing area. It enjoys a lovely seafront location and is just a short stroll from the resort centre. All the hotel’s air-conditioned bedrooms (£4 per day air-con supplement payable locally if used) have private sh/wc, TV and either a balcony or terrace. Sea view rooms are available with a £7 per day supplement. There’s a bar alongside the pool, safety deposit box at reception (payable locally) whilst meals are taken in the hotel’s restaurant adjacent to the pool. The pool bar is the place to meet, especially in the evening, for a cool drink or two before enjoying a leisurely dinner and, after dinner perhaps, a stroll along the seafront. The Barbaros Beach is very informal, very friendly and a wonderful place to relax and enjoy genuine Turkish hospitality.
