Zakynthos
Singles Holidays to Greece
The Greek island of Zakynthos is the most southern of the Ionian islands and is well known for its sandy beaches, its eclectic mix of resorts - some lively, others delightfully peaceful and unspoilt - and its beautiful, green, mountainous hinterland. The entire coastline is dotted with pretty bays and coves whilst the crystal clear waters surrounding the island are home to some spectacular wildlife in the shape of the famous Caretta turtles (which return each year to make their nests) and, if you are really lucky to catch a glimpse of them, the wonderful Monachus seals which grace the rockier areas around the Keri Caves in the south and the Blue Caves in the north. Our resort on Zakynthos is Keri, situated in a picturesque bay approximately 20 kms from the island capital, Zakynthos town. It’s a small resort surrounded by olive groves, hills and the glistening Ionian Sea and there are lovely sea and mountain views all round. It’s all very attractive and uncommercial with just a few hotels, villas, minimarkets and bars and all within easy walking distance of The Markella. There’s plenty to do and see on Zakynthos including a great excursion to Shipwreck beach and we think it’s a destination that really does have something for everyone.
The Markella *** The Markella is located in the pretty, unspoilt resort of Keri, approximately 20 kms from Zakynthos town, and borders the deep blue Ionian sea of Keri Bay. Local people in the Keri area still occupy themselves with agriculture and the lush olive groves and vineyards around Keri produce the best quality olive oil and wine in Zakynthos. ‘Upper’ Keri village, on a hill high above the harbour, is characterised by its old, stone-built houses and narrow streets which are great examples of the local traditional architecture. The Markella is a 10 minute stroll from the beach and comprises spacious studio apartments, all for sole use, and each having a balcony or terrace, TV, a small kitchenette with fridge, 2 ring hob, toaster and kettle, and air-conditioning (payable locally at 6 euros per day). There’s a lovely large swimming pool, a bar, a garden with bougainvillea everywhere, complimentary wi-fi in the bar area and an al fresco dining area. Evening meals are taken in the Keri Village Hotel. It’s a lovely peaceful setting and perfect for a memorable holiday. |
