Ischia, Italy This delightful volcanic island is one of the Mediterranean’s best-kept secrets. It lies in the
Tyrrhenian Sea to one side of the Gulf of Naples, close to the famous Neapolitan Riviera.
It is a lovely spot for an Italian holiday. The scenery is truly stunning with mountainous
landscapes. Many are attracted by the hot thermal springs and spas. The island also
boasts ancient Roman sites and centuries-old vineyards. Mount Epomeo, at over 2,500ft,
is Ischia’s highest peak – head to the top for spectacular views of the island and the Bay
of Naples. Its beaches are famous and are long stretches of sand, backed by verdant hills.
The beach of Maronti is the longest on the island – climb above it to look over the small,
attractive isthmus of Sant’Angelo. Take a boat tour to explore the island’s picturesque
coastline of turquoise coves and sandy bays. One of Ischia’s most iconic landmarks is the
island fort of Aragon Castle, dating from 474 BC. Serious culture vultures can head across
the Bay of Naples to visit the world-famous sites of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Sorrento and
Capri, which are all within easy reach of Ischia.
This historic villa dates back to the early 1900s and is set
in beautiful, mature gardens facing the sea in the delightful resort area of
Lacco Ameno. It overlooks the attractive marina, with its shopping
centre. The nearest sandy beach is only 100 metres away and there is a shuttle service to/from the San Montano beach. The hotel is
renowned for its thermal spa facilities, with warm water coming directly from one of the island’s oldest springs. Use of the relaxing
outdoor and indoor thermal pools is complimentary but spa treatments are at an extra cost. The outdoor pool is surrounded by palm
trees, with loungers and shades. The restaurant overlooks the sea and servesdelicious Mediterranean fare. The 80 rooms have digital TV
with Lcd, direct dial telephone, air conditioning/ heating, safe, hairdryer, private sh/wc and minibar. Wifi is complimentary. Rooms with
a terrace are available on payment of a supplement. Please note that swimming caps must be worn when using the pool.
